Holidays Season Blues
Hi friends,
This time of year, everywhere you look, there’s pressure to be cheerful and festive. But for a lot of us—including me—it’s not that simple. I want to be real with you: I struggle with depression and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), and the holidays often make it harder. Between grief, the weight of expectations, and just trying to keep up, it can feel like a battle to get through each day.
Some days, depression tells me to push people away. Sometimes it makes me forget things or feel like I’m just going through the motions. I know I’m not alone in this, and if you relate, I see you. You’re not failing because it’s hard. You’re surviving—and that’s enough.
Things That Help (Even Just a Little)
Let yourself off the hook. If you’re not feeling festive, that’s okay. You don’t owe anyone holiday cheer.
Tiny routines. Even a few minutes of sunlight, a hot shower, or a walk can help. It doesn’t fix everything, but it’s a start.
Reach out (even if it feels awkward). Text a friend, message me, or just let someone know you’re struggling. You don’t have to do it alone.
Permission to rest. If you need to cancel plans, say no, or take a nap—do it. Your well-being comes first.
Gentle reminders. Sticky notes, alarms, or lists can help if your brain’s feeling foggy.
If you need support, please know my door (and inbox) is always open—no judgment, just real talk.
